DIY Repair For Common LCD TV Problems

Because of the advancements in technology, numerous electronic products have emerged. However, some unpleasant things can happen because of this over production of models and devices. Good thing repairs can be done the do-it-yourself way. Here is a guide on how to do common issues on a Liquid Crystal Display television repair .
When your LCD screen has gone bad because of a high voltage problem, you can leave the television repair unit unplugged for about half an hour so it can reset itself. Now if that doesn't work, check the circuit board that supplies power into the screen. But, if the television is under warranty, better check that first to ensure that you'll get the proper solution to the problem. If the warranty has elapsed, check the trusty Internet and look for a service manual to help you identify the source of the problem and fix it DIY way.
When the screen displays on half of the picture, the problem would most likely be a "cold" solder joint in the inductor, capacitor or one of the components. If you know how to disassemble, assemble, and you are handy with a soldering iron, you can just reflow the cold joints.
If you are seeing only black screen on the display, try checking the cables if they are properly connected or plugged. You can also reconnect each cable one by one to make sure that they are plugged in the right input. If your flat screen has a screen saver, see how it is set. If these won't work, maybe the rear projection, the lamp, or the panel has been damaged. Better to call the manufacturer's customer service to help you identify such technical problem and replace what needs to be replaced.

There are so many reported cases that the appliance we bought just shows its problems after they are no longer under warranty. I can’t tell if it’s a coincidence or not, but this is the most common thing that happens - especially to me.  But since I am used to experiencing this kind of situation for every appliances that I’ve purchased, whenever I acquire new set of electronics, I just reckon it to be broken after some time regardless of whether it’s still under warranty or not. I’m fortunate if it’d showed its faults while under warranty but if not, I’ll just search online and look for a reliable center to take my TV there and have it repaired for a reasonable price. Moreover, I constantly consider checking the TV repair shop if it’s listed in the manufacturer’s list of recommended repair centre. This is to ensure that the repair shop has the ability to fix your TV.

LCD And DLP Televisions

When you’re looking for a high-definition television customers are usually faced with options of a DLP or Digital Light Processing televisions and the LCD or Liquid Crystal Display television set. A beginner to the market of televisions could simply happen to be overwhelmed by this outlook. There are some aspects to reflect on when you are planning to have either a DLP or a LCD television including the value, presentation and the general features.

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) television screen functions by revealing a large number of red, blue and green liquid crystals which alter the switch off and on in creating an appropriate color on the television screens. Red, green and blue because these are the basic colors of brightness that develops a perceptible color range. LCD televisions have a tendency to be very intense, making it perfect for a fine light room in your house where the outer brightness doesn’t affect much the glares.

The majority of the LCD televisions have 2 and 4 inches deepness that are perfect for a wall mounted televisions. Unluckily, these LCD screens are seldom seen in model bigger than 50 inches because of the complicatedness in generating bigger LCD displays in a different manner. One of the frequent censure when it comes to LCD televisions is that the usually 70,000 - 80,000 viewing time, fading of the green crystals begins which cause the red-blue tint to the monitor. Presently, there is no alternative to fix this kind of dilemma yet with no substituting the television. The pricing factors also vary which provide the LCD initial cost efficient benefits in the DLP and LCD problems.

While the DLP (Digital Light Processing) televisions works by shimmering light into a microprocessor enclosed in thousands of tiny mirrors. This reflection brings the reflected brightness all the way through a color wheel that projects the accurate color onto the monitor, related in style to rear projection televisions in the past. This type of technology is usually set to make use in digital projection cinemas to improve the image color and precision.

Even though naturally extra luxurious, DLP televisions don’t undergo from green crystal deprivation which is frequent in more economical LCD televisions. Furthermore, DLP televisions bulbs can be replace with a new one, more sensible alternative cost compare the higher end LCD televisions.

Whereas the DLP televisions can provide a greatly brilliant image and possess an absolute life span match up to LCD models. Some people also notice rainbow result wherever they are far enough from the middle of the television as you are watching. Another factor to think about in the DLP televisions and LCD televisions is the dimension of the DLP televisions. DLP television sets range among 6 and 16 inches. This makes them more prominent and hard to make a wall mounting compared to the LCD televisions which are accessible for a wall mounting style.

When planning to purchase your next television, consider the benefits and its disadvantages as your guideline whether you will choose a DLP or LCD televisions. When you are still in doubt, you can always have a view of both types of these televisions in one room for additional help what to choose between the two.

Television Repair: Why Repair Instead Of Replace?

Household electronics make lives of many people in homes more comfortable and convenient. Some of them are used for convenience purposes while others are used to entertain the homeowners and their visitors. Without many of these, the lives of many people would be very different today. One of the very commonly found household electronics is the television. In every 10 homes, more than 6 of them own a set. This can be attributed to the convenience and usability of the item in many homes.

Televisions are the most used household items. This is because they do not require the users to have special skills for them to operate. One does not need to attend any training for them to operate a television. This makes the rate that the television sets break down to be very high. Some may break down due to problems in power supply while others will break down naturally as a result of the usage. In most cases, when the television breaks down, many people are tempted to replace them thinking that it is the best thing to do. However, this decision is usually a wrong one because the owner of the TV set ends up losing.

Television repair when done by a qualified specialist can save the owner a lot of money that would have otherwise been spent in replacing the broken unit. It is a public secret that repairing is cheaper than replacement. The cost of repairs is always less than half the cost of replacing the unit. All the money is lost if the owner of the TV set opts to go for a replacement. One may decide to go for a replacement thinking that they will sell off the spoilt one at a lower price that will enable them to recover the funds. This is not a wise decision because in most cases the spoilt television sets are purchased at a very low price. When compared to the price of a new television set, the price is just a drop in the ocean and it would have a very small impact.

The people who choose to repair their faulty TV sets contribute a lot to the betterment of the environment since they conserve the environment by reusing the faulty parts which would have otherwise been dumped as waste and cause environmental pollution. Reusing the faulty televisions by repairing them is therefore pocket friendly as well as environment friendly.

Another important point to note is that repaired products are always of a higher quality than the new products. Some of the errors that could have been made in the manufacturing process are carefully corrected by the specialist during repair and this makes the product that is obtained from the repair to be in the best condition.

It is however important to exercise a lot of caution in choosing the specialist to do the repair. This is because with the modern changes in technology, the newer models of TV sets have come up. They are made using complex sophisticated methods that can cause the technicians to have problems fixing the TV sets if they are not competent enough. It is therefore important to ensure that the selected specialist is well established and experienced in the field to avoid disappointments.

Unfortunately, in some cases, the repairman might tell you it will cost much more than 50%. In this case, you should think about whether or not to go through with the repair.

However, in many other cases, the repairman will tell you the repair cost will be substantially less. You won’t know know unless you ask. Isn’t it worth a trip to the repair shop to find out if you can get it fixed for a fraction of the cost of a new one

Better Quality

The fact is that every company in the world is looking for ways to reduce costs. In most cases, this means producing newer products that don’t use the same quality of equipment as in the past. This means that anytime you buy a new electronic device of any kind, it is probably made with parts that are of a lower quality.

Everyone knows that the environment is in trouble and every new item we send to the landfill makes it that much worse. If everyone makes the decision to repair their broken television set instead of instantly buying a new one, we could do a great service to the environment.

Why TV Repairs Are Worth It

If your TV has stopped working, and you're thinking about getting a new one, then you might want to consider whether a TV repairs company could fix it first.
Here's what you should consider.

1. Your television is an expensive investment, and you want it to last. You get your car serviced and repaired, so why not get your TV repaired too?

2. Accidental damage to your Television won't be covered by warranty. If you've got young children, or are thinking about moving house, you'll want to make sure that your TV is well protected.

3. You don't want the hassle of being without a TV. Although it might not be on all the time, you'll definitely miss it when it's not working. Instead of having a television that doesn't work, why not get it fixed?

4. If your set doesn't work, and you think that Television repairs will be expensive, then having to buy a new one will be more expensive. Getting it fixed will be a cost effective way to have your TV up and running again.

5. You don't want to spend your weekends and evenings trawling round retail parks looking for a new television. Even if you shop online, you'll have to be in when your new set is delivered. You'll also panic and wonder whether you've actually bought the right one.

Important Things to Consider About LCD Television Repairs

LCD (liquid crystal display) is the latest innovation in screen display and is most commonly used in TVs and computer screens. LCD televisions are still a relatively new technology so they tend to cost more, and therefore, throwing them away and just buying a new one is usually not feasible for the average person. It is wise to spend some time to think about warranty and parts availability before purchasing an LCD television, just to prepare yourself for the eventuality of needing LCD television repair in the future.

Deciding on a warranty.
When considering a warranty when you purchase a new LCD television, take note of kind of repairs that are covered. You may want to spend a little more to get a wider range of free services and extended period. Not all repairs are costly but in my opinion there are very few LCD television repair that can be done at home. Of course, opening the television almost certainly voids any remaining warranty left.

To repair or to replace.
A well-maintained LCD television can last over ten years. This makes it worth repairing in most cases. They are expensive to just throw away and replace, not to mention the effects doing so has on the environment. Use the half and half rule when deciding to repair or replace.
If the LCD television repair is going to cost more than half the cost of just purchasing a new one, then consider replacement. Also, if the LCD television has more than half its life expectancy left, then repairs might be a better option. Prices will continue to go down as technology advances, but for now purchasing an LCD television is an investment, and its repairs should be considered an investment as well.

To DIY or to hire.
If you take the time to look online, there are a few places that offer help with your LCD television repair, including some easy tips to solve common problems at home. Properly research all of these options before deciding whether you can do an LCD television repair yourself or not.
However, there are a lot of just very bad ideas out there as well, so be careful. Things such as smacking your LCD with an open palm would be a good way to break the screen. If it doesn’t make sense, don’t even try it. A professional reputable LCD television repair shop should spend a little time with you on the phone when you call for prices. You can take advantage of his opportunity to ask a few questions to find out if you could do LCD television repair yourself.

What you Should Know Before Buying a New TV

1. Not Measuring Available Space
When purchasing a new TV set, especially LCD or Plasma screens, it’s a common mistake to forget to measure the amount of space available for the system. If you’re upgrading from a CRT TV set (big box), chances are you’ll be choosing between an LCD, Plasma or DLP, all of which are much smaller than CRT monitors. It’s important to measure the amount of space available to ensure that your new TV will fit. If you buy a 42″ LCD or Plasma TV, the 42″ refers to the length of the line running diagonal from the top left to the bottom right of the screen. The actual width, height and depth should be indicated on the label or in the product description online.

2. Not Considering Size of Room/Viewing Area
This is another common problem that first time TV buyers forget to take into consideration. For example, buying a 60″ Plasma for a 10’x10’ room is probably overkill; it’s similar to going to a movie theater and sitting in the first or second room. Prolonged exposure to a TV set at such a close distance can cause pain to your eyes and potentially inflict long term damage. Finding the optimal viewing distance for your TV set is an important consideration to make when purchasing a TV. If you’re interested in finding the optimal viewing distance for a given size, check out this site.

3. Not Enough Research
Buying a TV was a lot simpler twenty years ago; there were less options, makes and models. Nowadays it seems as if new brands and technologies are popping up every month that it’s hard to keep track of them all. That’s why for today’s TV buyer, research is a must. Especially for price conscious buyers, going online and doing your research can save a great deal of money. Buying online is almost always cheaper than buying from a store.

4. Forgetting to Compare Brands
What do Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Sharp, and Vizio all have in common? They’re all famous electronics brands which include TVs. While Samsung and LG may make great cell phones, that doesn’t guarantee they also make great TVs as well. A Sony 42″ HDTV may be better than a Samsung HDTV of the same size, but for another size class the opposite may be true. Comparing specific models for specific brands is vital to making a well informed TV purchase. The last thing you want to do is spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a new TV and find out that it doesn’t have the features you want or the durability you were hoping for.

Fixing a Broken TV Makes More Sense than Buying a New One

As tempting as it might be to buy a new TV when something goes wrong with your current flat screen set, it might be a good idea to check if this is really necessary.

More often than not, a flat screen TV is repairable and the fault can be a simple one. It might also only cost you a few hundred pounds, as opposed to a couple of thousand pounds spent on a new screen.

There are a few things in life that are worth repairing – your flat screen television is one of them. After all, you’ve invested a lot of money in your TV repair, and it’s probably given you a few years of quality TV viewing. More than likely, it’s the centre piece to your living room.

Why then, spend astronomical amounts of money on a new purchase, when you might be able to repair your current unit?

Firstly, when deciding to repair your television, take a look at the warranty of the unit to find out exactly what is covered. You might be able to save a lot of money and not have to pay anything if your unit is still well under warranty.

Problems with the television display are the most common problems that TV owners face when deciding on repairing or replacing their set. A regular flat panel LCD screen for example, is designed to last up to 40 000 hours of TV viewing time. That amounts to roughly 20 years viewing for the average person. That’s a long time.

However, nowadays TV viewing has increased with more and more people using their TVs to play games. Specifically, the interactive games that make use of Wii or Kinetic consoles. This could decrease the overall hours or years that these screens were originally designed for – for television viewing alone. Therefore, we suggest that before you go out shopping for a new flat screen TV, ask yourself the following questions:

A regular flat panel LCD screen for example, is designed to last up to 40 000 hours of TV viewing time. That amounts to roughly 20 years viewing for the average person. That’s a long time.

However, nowadays TV viewing has increased with more and more people using their TVs to play games. Specifically, the interactive games that make use of Wii or Kinetic consoles. This could decrease the overall hours or years that these screens were originally designed for – for television viewing alone. Therefore, we suggest that before you go out shopping for a new flat screen TV, ask yourself the following questions:

LG WebOS smart TV on the way!

LG WebOS smart TV on the way!
The last time we saw Palm’s beautiful WebOS operating system, it was on the ill-fated TouchPad tablet, which ended up being unceremoniously dumped by HP just weeks after launch. The company has since moved to open-source the software, and now the project might be bearing fruit: according to a new report, LG TV is working on a WebOS TV, no less.

WebOS Nation reports that Gram, the company overseeing the open source project that was spun off from HP earlier this year (confusing, we know), is hard at work helping adapt the webOS interface for TVs, to replace LG’s NetCast service. LG TV is allegedly unhappy with the performance of Google TV so far, and keen to find another solution.

How to turn any TV into a smart TV
Open WebOS could be it, but there’s work to be done. When it first debuted on the Palm Pre in 2009, WebOS was years ahead of its time in terms of UI design with its unobtrusive notifications and intelligent multi-tasking. But it was sluggish, and indeed the report says that LG and Gram are having to work hard on the boot up time of it for the project: after all, when did you ever wait for your inexpensive TV to boot up rather than simply turn on?

WebOS Nation says we may see the LG WebOS Smart TV debut at the CES tech expo in Las Vegas in January, but we’ll doubtless hear more before then. In the meantime, get stuck in with your view in the comments below: can WebOS ever have the apps you need to make it the right and affordable smart TV choice?

New LCD TV Repair Ebook By Kent Liew

My repair friend Kent Liew has just launched his new ebook on LCD TV Repair. I've already got a copy from him. Here is the review:

1) The ebook is about 90 pages

2) It covers 27 brands of LCD TV

3) Some brands have one problem/solution while others have few

4) It has over 50 color photos to assist on the Television repair depending on the problem.

In the last section it has the "Fast Search Fault Index". This means you can use the reference in the "Fast Search Fault Index" to help you to find the solution in your type of LCD TV fault.  For example, if the Hitachi LCD TV that you are repairing have one vertical bar in the display and you can't solve it, you can always refer to other LCD brand to see the solution. If the solution is to replace a component in T-con board then you get the idea and you then can apply to your faulty Hitachi LCD TV.

The best thing about this ebook is that it comes with the support from the owner. If you have TV repair problem you can always email him. For more information you can click HERE or the ebook cover.

LCD Television Sets – The Right Choice For Better Viewing

With the advent of newer technologies, television sets have taken newer shapes and designs. Those age old square shaped television sets with semi oval screens are not the best option to avail these days. Rather, everyone is looking for better options while watching movies or sports at home. Everybody wants to experience the theatre effects these days while watching movies at home. And with the invention of LCD television the dreams of millions have become a success. Viewing serials, movies, sports, or any live event on this sort of a television set is always an amazing experience.

They are mostly rectangular in shape with pure flat screen. Have you ever visited a multiplex to watch movies? There, you will observe the screen to be absolutely rectangular with concaving at all. Similar is the designing structure for most of the LCD televisions sets. In fact, these television sets are lighter in weight and slimmer in appearance and takes up lesser amount of space if compared to the traditional TV sets (cathode ray tube technologies).

The full form of LCD is Liquid Crystal Display. The LCD TV sets use the liquid-crystal display technologies to generate the images on the screen. Some of the notable manufacturers of this type of television sets are Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Philips, Videocon, & Akai. Presently, the demand for 3D television sets is quite high. But, most of the television sets that have the 3d viewing facility, fails to provide that exact effect like that of a movie hall.
