Is It Better To Get Appliances Repaired or Buy New Ones?

To repair or to buy new - that is the question of many consumers. We want our appliances to work, but we want to save money too. Many look into how much it will cost to fix the appliance compared to buying new before they make a choice. Others just want to use their appliances and don't want to waste time on repairs.

Appliances might still be under warranty when they have a need for repair. Just because there is a warranty doesn't mean you won't have to pay for some of the repairs as well. That is one reason why people choose to purchase a new appliance. Nevertheless, some repairs are so costly it might actually be better to purchase a new appliance. Some Tv repairs have small help that is needed, but other times it could be a major repair. If a small appliance that is not expensive to begin with has a costly repair owners might consider a new appliance. Then on the other hand, big appliances might be worth fixing. Even a costly repair for a big appliance still may be less costly than having to purchase a new appliance.

There are television repair workers that specialized in a wide array of appliances. Some include ovens, washers, dryers, trash compactors, air conditioners, heaters, refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, dishwashers, cook tops, ice making machines and televisions. These specialists can maintain as well as repair these appliances and more.

Sometimes appliance owners want to take their savings a bit further. They might opt to use refurbished parts to make a repair. They will save money and extend the life of the appliance. Another option is they decide to do the repairs themselves. This is a great idea if the homeowner has experience with repairs or has a talent for making repairs. Otherwise, if they don't then it will lead them to needing to pay someone anyway to do the repair. It could even cause more harm to the appliance that will need to be fixed as well. They could end up losing money instead of saving.

Television Repair

I speak of repair of the hardware, not the industry. A while back our brand spanking new Philips 27″ television mysteriously began denying that it had any knowledge of electricity. Our GE died after 12 years, so we expected the Philips to last a bit longer than four months. So, we called Philips regarding the situation, and, so sorry, we only cover labor for 90 days, feel free to take it to Stanton TV in Danbury, CT, for repair.

The unit has two components: the CRT television and the circuit board. It’s simply a solid-state, single-purpose computing device attached to various means of I/O. It took longer to unscrew the back than it does to remove the board and swap it. But, after arguing the point with “Support,” it appears Policy prevents them from sending me the part. I might shock myself, after all. (Maybe I shouldn’t mention the Macintosh SE/30 lying disassembled on the floor of the basement.)

So we took it in. It’ll be $75 for the labor, they say.

Time passes.

“What’s taking so long?” I ask. “We’re waiting for parts.”

Time passes.

“Well?” “We’re troubleshooting the problem.”

Time passes.

“And?” “We’re waiting for parts; they should be here by the end of the week.”

Time passes.

“Oh?” “We’re troubleshooting the problem.”

Right.

They called today to tell us that it’s ready. If they think we’re paying for four weeks of labor, they have another think coming. I can pick up a Bigger, Better, More Feature-Rich Boob Tube at Wal*Mart for under $300. Why would I pay to have this one repaired?

Why doesn’t Philips do as Dell does, and send a guy to swap parts? Or, like IBM, just send the part?

LCD Television Sets – The Right Choice For Better Viewing

With the advent of newer technologies, television sets have taken newer shapes and designs. Those age old square shaped television sets with semi oval screens are not the best option to avail these days. Rather, everyone is looking for better options while watching movies or sports at home. Everybody wants to experience the theatre effects these days while watching movies at home. And with the invention of LCD television the dreams of millions have become a success. Viewing serials, movies, sports, or any live event on this sort of a television set is always an amazing experience.

They are mostly rectangular in shape with pure flat screen. Have you ever visited a multiplex to watch movies? There, you will observe the screen to be absolutely rectangular with concaving at all. Similar is the designing structure for most of the LCD televisions sets. In fact, these television sets are lighter in weight and slimmer in appearance and takes up lesser amount of space if compared to the traditional TV sets (cathode ray tube technologies).

The full form of LCD is Liquid Crystal Display. The LCD TV sets use the liquid-crystal display technologies to generate the images on the screen. Some of the notable manufacturers of this type of television sets are Sony, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Philips, Videocon, & Akai. Presently, the demand for 3D television sets is quite high. But, most of the television sets that have the 3d viewing facility, fails to provide that exact effect like that of a movie hall.

3D tech gives TV a new dimension

When Mumbai-based Sunil Khatri went looking for a new TV, he was fascinated by 3D TVs, and the viewing experience those offered. But, one look at their price tags and the accompanying costs to buy 3D glasses for his family of six members convinced him to settle for a 40-inch high definition LED TV, which cost him Rs 42,000. “I was concerned about the steep price one had to dish out for a 3D TV and the need to wear 3D glasses to experience the effects. Besides, I have elderly parents and wasn’t sure how they would take to 3D glasses,” he points out.

So, why anyone should be interested in a 3D TV? It’s not that there are a large number of programmes in 3D available. And, if you want to watch movies in 3D, you will also need a BluRay 3D player and need to buy all your movies in BluRay 3D format. The manufacturers are not ready to hang up their boots on 3D technology. Perhaps that’s a reason why LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Sony and Panasonic are bringing in models where one doesn’t even have to wear 3D glasses and one can consume 2D content as 3D by just pushing a button on their remote. They are promoting the use of cheaper passive 3D glasses (that do not require to be charged and are lighter to wear). All this is expected to push the popularity of 3D TVs.

For the enthusiasts, here are some of the latest 3D TVs that deliver respectable 3D experience.

LG 55LM6700 3D TV
As far as flat panel displays go, 55-inch LG LM6700 is one of the most attractive models. Sporting a barely-there bezel (visible only near the bottom) and its metallic swivel stand, LM6700 has perhaps the most stunning 3D effects on a home television.

A striking feature of LM6700 is the remote, called Magic Remote, that includes just a handful of buttons working just like the Nintendo Wii controller. When you move it, the remote activates an arrow cursor on TV screen. Point the curser at whatever you want on the on-screen menu and click the select button. LG bundles six pairs of glasses, just like the ones that you have had used in a cinema theatre. These glasses are flicker-free, battery-free and cheap to replace.
